COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — The Coeur d’Alene School District is expected to pass its levy now that all of the votes in Kootenai County have been counted.
The 2-year, $25 million levy, will replace the district’s previous levy of the same amount.
“It’s a renewal of the exact same dollar amount it was two years ago, and I think as most of the people in our community know, especially in the Coeur d’Alene community, things are a little more expensive than they were two years ago,” said CDA School District Superintendent, Dr. Shon Hocker.
The district said it is grateful t have support for it’s schools, especially for funding staff and extracurriculars.
“It’s always gratifying to see that voters will support public schools in North Idaho,” said Christa Hazel, former CDA School Board Trustee.
The levy will fund around 100 teacher positions and 200 staff positions, including resource officers and nurses.
Superintended Hocker said it will only be about 18 months until the district starts working on the next levy.
“The one and two-year cycles are just too quick and too intensive. The community and the citizenry themselves don’t like having that ask happen every two years,” said Dr. Hocker.
Over the next week, school boards across Idaho will decide if they want to attempt to change the current levy system.
If they all agree, the school boards will start working with state legislatures.
Dr. Hocker said he would like to see a one to six-year levy system put into place.
