SPOKANE, Wash. — Coats 4 Kids distribution is underway, and just in time for the chilly weather.
On November 4, Northeast Community Center opened its doors to kids and families in the community to come through and pick out a warm winter coat.
Rosa Lopez works at the community center and has helped hand out coats for the past 10 years.
“I think it means a lot, when they come in here, they get super excited about getting to pick out a coat, and when they do find one that’s their size and what they are looking for, they get excited,” she said.
Also in attendance, staff and students from Shaw Middle School who took a field trip to the center to pick out coats.
“We have many students who don’t have coats, who don’t have the ability to get coats, so the fact that we have it, and it’s right across the street and we can just bring students over is a huge blessing for us,” said Shaw Middle School Community Specialist Patti Weishaar.
As the temperature continues to drop, Debra Husick said she is grateful to have the help of Coats 4 Kids.
“Coats are expensive and my kids are at school, and it’s raining and it’s cold and I just needed some help this year,” she said.
The Northeast Community Center (4001 N Cook St.) distribution site is open Monday – Friday, 10 a.m – 3 p.m. through November 15.
