RATHDRUM, Idaho — A Rathdrum man has been sentenced to over seven years in federal prison for being caught trying to solicit sex from a minor during an undercover Homeland Security operation.
62-year-old Donovan Vinton Nagle was sentenced to 90 months in prison for attempting to use interstate facilities to transmit information about a minor.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Idaho, between June 20 and August 24, 2023, Nagle spoke online with an undercover Homeland Security agent who was posing as the mother of an 11-year-old girl.
Investigators said Nagle expressed sexual interest in the imaginary child and set up a time to meet with the mother and child for a sexual encounter at a Coeur d’Alene hotel. Nagle arrived at the hotel carrying a bag of ice cream bars, candy and energy drinks. He was arrested in the parking lot.
Nagle pled guilty to his charges on July 15, 2024.
Chief District Judge David C. Nye ordered Nagle to be on supervised release for the rest of his life once his prison sentence is over.
“Every child deserves to grow up safe, unscarred, in communities free of the threat posed by child predators,” said Special Agent in Charge Robert Hammer, who oversees HSI operations in the Pacific Northwest. “This sentence helps keep a dangerous predator off the street, and if we are to be effective at protecting our most vulnerable, it will take everlasting vigilance from HSI, our law enforcement partners, and the public to identify those that would attempt to exploit children.”
