SPOKANE, Wash. — Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) Stephanie Van Marter was honored on the field at ONE Spokane Stadium Sunday during the Spokane Zephyr for the work she has done to fight the fentanyl crisis in Eastern Washington.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office – Eastern District of Washington, Van Marter serves on the board of the Spokane Alliance for Fentanyl Education (SAFE).
During the Zephyr game Sunday, a recorded message voiced by Van Marter was shared with the crowd:
“Confidence grows from wisdom, compassion, grace, respect, sprinkled with a little bit of sass. The advice that I would give would be to find that one thing that does make you passionate, that you believe in, and pursue it. Realize that you are going to fall down but you are going to figure out a way to get back up.”
Van Marter regularly visits high school health classes and other groups to teach about the dangers of the opioid epidemic. She moderated a panel discussion on how our community can turn awareness into action when it comes to battling fentanyl.
“Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie Van Marter is a dedicated public servant who works each day to make our communities safe and strong. Teaming up with law enforcement and community partners, AUSA Van Marter courageously holds offenders accountable and selflessly spends time educating our youth and community leaders about the dangers of fentanyl,” stated United States Attorney Vanessa Waldref. “I am grateful the Spokane Zephyr recognized Stephanie’s contributions to our community, and I am proud she is a member of our office.”
In addition to her dedication to fentanyl eradication and education with SAFE since its inception in 2021, Van Marter supervises cases involving violent crimes in Indian Country, as well as child exploitation cases.
