BOISE, Idaho — Idaho’s early voting ballots for the general election already exceeded the total number of ballots cast in this year’s primary election.
Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane said voter participating for the November 5 election is expected to reach historic levels.
As of Wednesday morning, 293,443 ballots have been cast in the state’s general election. In the May primary election earlier this year, only 281,777 total ballots were cast.

The Secretary of State said out of those who cast early votes, 63% were registered Republican, 16% were Democrat, 21% were unaffiliated. Less than 1% of voters were registered with the Libertarian or Constitution Party.
In Kootenai County, 32,703 ballots have been returned, making up roughly 30% of all registered voters in the county.
Over 130,000 absentee ballots have also been returned to election offices, a return rate of 73%.
“With Idahoans showing up in large numbers for early voting and absentee, we are on the path to a historic turnout for the November 5 General Election,” said Secretary McGrane. “I encourage every eligible voter to make a plan, whether it’s early voting through Friday, returning an absentee ballot, or heading to the polls on Election Day.”
Early voting in Idaho continues through Friday. Absentee ballots may be returned up until 8 p.m. on Election Day.
