COLFAX, Wash. – Hundreds of registered voters in Whitman County still haven’t received their ballots for the upcoming election.
Whitman County Auditor Sandy Jamison says about 200-300 ballots are missing. The majority of them are associated with post office boxes in the town of Garfield.
In a press release, Jamison says she verified that all Whitman County ballots were processed out of the main U.S. Postal Service plant in Spokane on Oct. 16, but that the problem seems to lie with the ballot distribution process after the ballots were marked “successfully scanned” by the USPS.
“I am working directly with the USPS regarding these missing ballots and have escalated this issue up to the highest level of Washington State’s USPS administration,” said Jamison. “At this point, the USPS is retracing the distribution route of these ballots in hopes of determining their current location.”
If you are a registered voter in Whitman County who has not received a ballot, Jamison urges you to call the Whitman County Auditor’s Office at 509-397-5284.
“Rest assured that I am diligently investigating this matter,” said Jamison. “My goal is to make sure that every Whitman County registered voter receives a ballot and has the opportunity to participate in this election.”
