The Spokane County Prosecuting Attorney determined Officer Karl Richardson was justified in the deadly force used on Kerry Jones-Hilburg December 3, 2023.
Jones-Hilburg was suspected of shoplifting at the Walmart and two SPD officers confronted him. He resisted arrest and attempted to reach for a gun he had during the struggle.
Officer Richardson fired one shot hitting Jones-Hilburg who was declared deceased at the scene.
During the investigation, it was determined the gun Jones-Hilburg had was stolen out of Airway Heights and he had meth in his system at the time.
Officer Richardson and the other responding officer were injured during the incident.
