An E. coli outbreak linked to food from McDonald’s has made at least 75 people sick across the nation, including one person in Washington.
One death has also been reported in Colorado.
Food safety lawyer Bill Marler said he’s already filed a lawsuit in federal court against the fast food chain.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention said it doesn’t know which ingredient is the culprit. A McDonald’s supplier, Taylor Farms, told some locations to stop using its onions. This is the second time Taylor Farms had to recall onions due to a potential E. coli outbreak, the last time being in 2015.
“Most likely it occurred while the product was being grown in the field,” Marler said. “We’re going to look pretty hard at the growing conditions, what water was being used and how close they were to perhaps a cattle operation.”
Marler said this is a fast-moving outbreak.
Food safety experts said if you’ve had McDonald’s in the past week and are having stomach cramps or bloody stool, you should get medical attention immediately. Other symptoms include having a fever over 102 degrees and dehydration.
