SPOKANE, Wash. — A proposed housing housing development could bring significantly more traffic to Latah Valley.
The Victory Heights development would bring over 1,000 homes to a site near Thorpe Road and Highway 195, just a few miles north of the recently approved Marshall Creek housing development. The housing units would mostly consist of single-family homes, along with a few hundred townhouses.
Some have raised concerns about the increased traffic hundreds of new homes would bring to Thorpe Road.
Thorpe is a scenic, two-lane road that winds through two, old railroad tunnels through Latah County’s rolling meadows and many trees.
According to the traffic impact study conducted for the development, roughly 1,200 drivers use the road every morning.
The new development would bring about 600 additional cars to the Thorpe.
Even so, developers are relying on future infrastructure projects to reduce the congestion.
Some of the cited future projects include adding an acceleration lane to 195 and expanding Lindeke to Thorpe.
The project is unaffected by the one-year moratorium passed in May by The City of Spokane because exceptions were made for applications already in progress before the moratorium went into effect.
The City said the Victory Heights development application is currently under review.
