SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A driver found passed out behind the wheel in Spokane Valley over the weekend was arrested for DUI.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office says a Spokane Valley deputy saw a running Toyota stopped in a lane on Saltese Road near 16th Avenue around 1 a.m. Saturday morning.
Deputies saw the driver, 33-year-old Aleksey Karptsov, slumped over in the driver’s seat.
Additional deputies responded and blocked the Toyota in place and set a spike strip in front of the tires.
Deputies say they attempted to wake Karptsov for about 30 seconds before he responded to them. SCSO says he was unable to follow directions, and a deputy turned the car off themself.
SCSO says Karptsov was disoriented, had watery and bloodshot eyes, and nearly fell over when he got out of the vehicle. They also say they smelled alcohol on him and he slurred his speech.
Karptsov told deputies he was driving home and seemed surprised to be in the middle of the road. He denied drinking or using drugs and refused sobriety tests.
He was arrested for DUI and a blood sample was taken. Karpstov was then booked into the Spokane County Jail. He was released that evening on his own recognizance by the courts.
