MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — Over $4 million has been awarded to expand the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake.
The Department of Veterans Affairs said this new grant, awarded by the Veterans Cemetery Grants Program, will fund over 5,000 columbarium niches and landscaping.
“We are proud to support the State of Washington with this expansion grant,” said Acting Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs, Ronald E. Walters. “The cemetery serves more than 78,000 Veterans and eligible family members in the region and we look forward to our continued partnership in providing burial access.”
The Washington State Veterans Cemetery first opened in 2010 three miles west of the Fairchild Air Force Base. Since then, it has expanded twice to add thousands of burial sites and columbarium niches as well as six memorial walls.
