PULLMAN, Wash. — People across the Inland Northwest are now dealing with the damage left behind by the powerful wind, dust and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon.
In Pullman, snapped trees and debris lay on the sidewalks and roads. One car sits on the side of the street with remnants of a tree sticking out from the bed.
While the city cleared up most of the roads and walkways, some people are still picking up the piles of branches left in their yards.
“It really came roaring through here. All the trees, I’m amazed that more of them didn’t come down around here because they’re quite tall,” said Pullman resident Richard Taflinger.
One tree snapped across the street from Taflinger and blocked the road, but neighbors rallied together to clean everything up.
“Neighbors that I’ve never even met, but we all got together,” Taflinger said. “Even the little kids were hauling branches to the slush pile for the city to pick up, which they did this morning.”
After a few hours of picking up branches himself, Taflinger was able to finally clear his yard.
“I’ve lived here for decades and that was the worst storm I’ve ever experienced here,” he said.
