SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — At Sunrise Elementary School, a Vitalant blood drive honors the memory of Callie Anderson, a former student who passed away from cancer at eleven years old.
Community members are donating blood, reflecting on Callie’s love for dance and sharing fond memories.
Callie, diagnosed with cancer at two, inspired many through her bravery.
As participants board the Vitalant bus, they see her photo, a list of her favorites, and a bowl of her favorite candy, Nerds Gummy Clusters.
Her fifth-grade teacher, Linda Stumbough, recalls Callie’s kindness and friendship to her classmates.
“She was a friend to every single person in that class. I had a couple students who just needed someone to be their person, and Callie was their person. She never wanted anything other than just to be like everybody else,” said Stumbough.
There has been a GoFundMe set up to help her family financially during this tough time. If you would like to donate, you can click HERE.
If you would like to make a blood donation you can visit Vitalant’s website Blood Donation is Essential | Vitalant or sign up for Sunrise Elementary’s next blood drive on December 4th.
