MOSES LAKE, Wash. — Recent public safety concerns in the Sand Dunes Road area near Moses Lake have led the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to close target shooting until further notice.
WDFW said there have been a series of public safety incidents involving stray bullets from target shooting in that area.
On July 1, target shooting restrictions were implemented across Eastern Washington as part of regional fire restrictions. WDFW said those restrictions on target shooting will remain even after fire restrictions are lifted.
“We have seen multiple dangerous incidents involving target shooting, and the potential for serious injury or worse is too great to allow this activity to continue,” said Chad Eidson, Columbia Basin Wildlife Area manager. “We are prioritizing the safety of our community and visitors by keeping the Sand Dunes Road area closed to target shooting indefinitely.”
