SPOKANE, Wash. — The Northeast Community Center acts as a hub for eight different neighborhoods in Spokane.
Jene Ray, a representative of the center, stated, “We go and listen to families and students in Northeast Spokane and ask what it would take for them to thrive. From there, we develop programs.”
In 2023, the community center served over 17,000 families.
“We are the connectors or bridge builders between resident needs and programs and support,” Ray added.

The center offers various resources for people of all ages, from early childhood care to the Hillyard Senior Center.
Ray explained, “We have SNAP for energy assistance, a program called KIN that offers family therapy and services for young children, and a large Head Start program with 306 slots for childcare and preschool.”
A new coffee shop will be part of a program designed to help teenagers identify their next steps. “It is a short program that helps students aged 16 to 24 get their GEDs while also developing soft skills and exploring potential career paths,” Ray noted.
The program also assists students in connecting with professionals in their fields of interest. Tonight at 6, I will share more about the resources the community center will provide for students and what they hope participants will take away from the experience.
