INCHELIUM, Wash. — Evacuations were ordered for one of three fires caused by lightning near Inchelium on Sunday, according to Northeast Washington Fire Information.
As of 5 p.m. on August 19, level 1 (Get Ready) evacuations are in place for the area near the Stranger Creek II Fire burning seven miles southwest of Inchelium and one-and-a-half miles from the Twin Lakes Resort Community.
Officials said those in the area of the fire should remain alert.
The size of the fire is estimated between 30 and 50 acres and crews are working to establish dozer lines and contain the fire.
Lightning also caused a 120-acre fire, called the Six Mile Fire, which is burning 26 miles southwest of Inchelium.
The fire is burning on the burn scar left behind by the 2019 Williams Flat Fire.
As of Monday morning, the fire is roughly 70-80% contained.
Roads near the fire are in poor condition and officials said drivers should exercise caution.
Crews are continuing to work to fully control the fire.
A third, smaller fire, called the Whitestone Fire, was also caused by lightning on Sunday.
The fire burned 3/4 of an acre and crews almost completely lined the fire overnight.
As of 5:15 p.m. on Monday, no evacuation orders are in place for the Six Mile or Whitestone Fires.
