COLFAX, Wash. — A Pullman woman will undergo mental health treatment as a sentencing alternative for assaulting her six-month-old nephew in December 2023.
According to the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office, 19-year-old Tia Brown was charged with second-degree assault of a child in January 2024.
Bite marks that were determined to be Brown’s were found on the baby’s face and body while Brown was babysitting.
Brown pled guilty in June and she was sentenced to a Mental Health Sentencing Alternative as allowed by Washington law.
The sentence includes monitoring by the Department of Corrections for two years, mandatory mental health treatment, and Brown is forbidden from being alone with children under 13 years during that time.
If Brown violates the terms, she could be sentenced to prison for 31-41 months.
