SPOKANE, Wash. – The ONE Spokane Stadium is getting ready for its first-ever music festival this Friday.
About 8-10,000 people are expected to fill the floor and stands at the stadium for the Outlaw Music Festival.
Doors open at 4 p.m. with the first artists expected to start performing around 5:15 p.m.
Hosting this concert is something the Spokane Public Facilities District has been looking forward to for years.
Kicking things off by bringing in country music artists like Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan is something the stadium’s director of entertainment Matt Meyer didn’t even think was possible a few years ago.
“It’s something we didn’t want to miss out on and hopefully it starts that domino effect moving forward,” Meyer said. “Knowing that our first show is these three icons on our stage.”
Meyer said about 35% of the tickets sold for the concert so far are people coming from outside the Spokane area. He hopes more concerts will bring more tourists to the city.
Meyer explained they invested in one of the largest mobile stages in the country so they can tear down the stage to prepare for soccer games at the stadium.
“At that point, we can bring it in and once we get the crews and everybody used to erecting the stage, we can get that thing in and it’s pretty much a two day set up,” Meyer said.
Spokane Public Facilities also invested in what it calls the “Rolls Royce of Flooring” to help protect the soccer field when it hosts events.
It takes about 20 hours and 30 people to put the floor down, but officials hope it will allow the stadium to host all types of events going forward.
“We’ve even considered RV shows because you can drive lots of RVs into the space, lots of things you can do with a floor like this,” said Spokane Public Facilities director of sports Paul Christiansen.
Spokane Public Facilities said it already has more shows lined up over the next few weeks.
Tickets for the Outlaw Music Festival are still available. They range in price from $59.50 to $299.50. You can purchase tickets online here.
