SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – If you love the beautiful sights at Riverside State Park, it could be expanding soon.
Many people are more familiar with the hiking trails around the Bowl and Pitcher Area of Riverside State Park, but park officials are looking to expand the area northeast of the Lower Little Spokane Natural Area.
“The park is really nice, we like it,” said camper Jim Krueger. “It’s obviously not crowded (right now) because of the heat. We enjoy it.”
Washington State Parks and The Spokane Tribe of Indians are hosting an open house this month to get public feedback on the expansion idea. If approved, it would add around one thousand acres of land, known as the Glen Tana Property.
Glen Tana sits next to the Lower Little Spokane Natural Area. Washington State Parks said the land would have more hiking trails and recreational activities.
Some visitors at the park said they would love to see it expand even more.
“I’d love to see that if it happens,” said hiker Georgia Grayhek.
“There’s plenty of room, isn’t there?” said Krueger. “It would be very nice to be expanded.”
Before the State Parks Commission can make a decision, it wants to hear more from the public at an open house.
The open house is on July 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Hive in Spokane.
Parks officials will have a map and the full plan on display.
