SPOKANE, Wash – More teams and more players will hit the pavement later this month, as Hoopfest starts to see numbers go back up that declined immediately after the pandemic.
Hoopfest is the world’s largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament, with thousands of players of all ages and ability levels taking over the streets of downtown Spokane.
Hoopfest Director Riley Stockton says 4,715 teams are signed up, which is 500 more teams than the 4,217 that played in 2023.
Hoopfest was canceled in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID pandemic.
3,458 teams played in 2022.
At the height of its popularity, more than 6,000 teams would play in the annual event, which started in 1989.
Stockton expects Hoopfest could allow in another 30-40 teams by the time the games start on June 29th.
There’s still time for you to get involved in Hoopfest if you’re not playing. You can find volunteering details here.
