SPOKANE, Wash. — Carl Lindsey, 48, appeared in court Thursday facing felony hit-and-run charges after leading police on a chase that ended with him crashing into a patrol car.
The incident began near North Central High School, where police received a call about someone firing a shot toward the building. No one was hit and there was no damage, but Lindsey was seen waving a handgun nearby.
Police located Lindsey’s truck and stopped him near Heritage Funeral Home on Government Way. When officers gave commands, Lindsey sped off at up to 80 miles per hour.
“The officers had backed off for the safety of the public because the driver was driving recklessly,” said Spokane Police’s Tricia Leming. “Air One was in the air at the time and was able to keep visuals on the suspects vehicle.”
Lindsey drove into a police cruiser at Government and Whitstalks Way, injuring the officer’s arm and wrist, before crashing in a residential neighborhood.
The court notes that Mr. Lindsey has 18 adult criminal convictions. That he has 12 failure to appear or failure to comply, said Commissioner Tony Rugel.
Lindsey is being held on $20,000 bond and returns to court Tuesday, February 24th.
