PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State’s run game shines as the Cougars defeated Texas Tech, 37-16.
WSU quarterback John Mateer ran for 197 yards and a touchdown.
With 212 yards gained, Mateer broke the record for the most rushing yards by a quarterback in school history.
The Cougars rushed for 303 yards as a team, including a pair of touchdowns from Djouvensky Schlenbaker and another from Wayshawn Parker.
The Cougars’ defense also improved, holding the Red Raiders to just 16 points after scoring 52 last weekend.
WSU will now prepare for the Apple Cup rivalry game against the Washington Huskies.
Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. next Saturday from Lumen Field in Seattle.
