SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — The Central Valley School District voted to approve its 2024-2025 budget on Monday evening.
The nearly $300,000,000 budget passed unanimously following a roundtable discussion by the board.
It passed just weeks before students will arrive back to Central Valley schools on September 5.
The new budget includes, among other funds, a $2,825,000 Transportation Vehicle Fund and $13,935,000 Capital Projects Fund.
The budget is largely based off the district’s levy that passed in February with a 52.75% vote.
During Monday’s board meeting, Superintendent Dr. John Parker said the district still has more work to do.
“There might be activities that are levy-funded that we might need to sunset, because we aren’t getting the involvement, or there might be new activities that we need to expand on because the kids are interested…I will, as superintendent, continue to pledge the fact that we will also be looking for every dollar that’s available through grants, competitive or allocation grants, that are available, because every $25,000 or $250,000 grant that we relieve from the general fund levy, means we get more opportunities for kids or we get the chance to build the fund balance back to a place that is going to be able to sustain the issues we’ve talked about a lot.”
